Entebbe sits on a peninsula in Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake, and is home to Uganda's international airport. The botanical gardens and the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre are easy outings, and boats leave for Ngamba Island's chimpanzee sanctuary.
Kampala, the capital, is under an hour away by the expressway. From here travellers head to Bwindi and Mgahinga for gorilla trekking, Murchison Falls and Queen Elizabeth National Park.
