Milan is Italy's business and fashion capital, and it has plenty of art too. The marble Duomo took nearly six centuries to complete, and you can walk among its spires on the rooftop terraces. Next door, the glass roofed Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is one of the oldest shopping arcades in the world.
Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper covers a wall of the former refectory at Santa Maria delle Grazie. Tickets are limited and sell out, so book well ahead. Opera lovers can catch a performance at La Scala.
In the evening, head to the Navigli canals for an aperitivo. Lake Como is about an hour away by train.
